The BWPA exists to promote aviation, particularly to women. There are over three hundred members of the BWPA involved in all areas of aviation. Amongst our membership are student pilots, those flying for a hobby, airline captains, military pilots and flying instructors. Members are of all ages, experience and backgrounds but share a common enthusiasm for flying.

Who We Are

The British Women Pilots' Association was formed in 1955 in order to help women participate in aviation. The result is a dynamic, responsive organisation of like-minded people. We:

  • Encourage women to fly
  • Arrange flying weekends in the UK and abroad
  • Present awards for recognised achievements
  • Arrange group visits to places of interest
  • Meet at local regional groups & national events
  • Provide help through scholarships and advice, to women wanting a career in aviation
  • Voice the opinions of women in aviation
  • Run training courses
  • Publish newsletters and website articles.

The BWPA is run by a committee of elected members each with individual responsibilities. Off the committee much work is done liaising with other aviation organisations, both in the UK and overseas.

Fundraising through raffles, events etc supplement the membership fees and provide the money to support the Scholarship and Bursary and to promote flying.

Regional Groups are run throughout the country. Typically they meet once a month for social and/or flying events. Regional co-ordinators meet to exchange ideas and plan joint and national events.
