The BWPA now has its own closed group on Facebook. For those of you who are familiar with Facebook I probably don't need to explain any more. For those who aren't, in the near future you will receive an invitation to join the BWPA Facebook Group. It is by invitation only and everyone will have to be approved by Pauline Vahey, as administrator, before they can join. We intend to keep details of forthcoming events on the page and it will also be a forum for members to contact each other, either to arrange to fly together or just to organise a lift to the next event. Members will also be able to share pictures and comments about events or anything worth sharing. You can use it as much, or as little as you like.

I also appreciate that some of you wouldn't be seen dead on Facebook and that's OK too, there is no compunction to join. However, by keeping it a closed group we will avoid the aspects of Facebook that members may be uncomfortable with. Have a look and see.

The BWPA and the Air League may be able to help. Every year the BWPA gives a Scholarship to a young British woman between the ages of 17-26 years old to pay for between 12 to 15 hours of flying training towards the initial grant of a National Pilots Licence or Private Pilots Licence.

If you are interested you have until the 30th January 2010 to contact the Air League and complete your application. Email scholarships@airleague.co.uk, call 020 7222 8463 or download an application form from www.airleague.co.uk. They also administer another 100 scholarships so you may qualify to apply for others.

If you already have a PPL then you can apply for a Bursary. The flying Bursaries offer between 5 and 8 hours of advance flying training. Recent winners have used them to help fund twin, instructors, aerobatics and IMC ratings. Again the application forms are available from the Air League, details as above, however the deadline for applications is 27th February 2010.

The closing date for your nominations for THE BRITISH WOMEN PILOT'S AWARDS has been extended to the 22 October 2009, so if you know of a woman in your club or airfield who has this year (2009), accomplished a record breaking or personal achievement, either in engineering, PPL, commercial or flying instructing using Power fixed Wing, Rotor aircraft, Gliding, Microlight, Hang Gliding, Parachuting or any other aspect of flying, do let us know. It is such an honour to receive these awards. Click here for more info on our awards.
